Thierry Correia has grown into his role at Valencia CF, during his second season at the club. The fullback has been featuring with increased frequency, and VCF Media caught up with him to talk about his current form and the upcoming game against Granada CF.
"I didn't play much last season. Whenever there was a game at Mestalla, I felt something special. I think that it would be great for us if the fans were there. But they can't be with us, and we have to give our all for them," he said ahead of the Matchday 28 fixture.
Granada are a great team. They are having a good season in LaLiga and the Europa League. But we have a lot of quality and we have to focus on ourselves. We have to work hard to get the win."
The objective is to get back to winning ways with another victory at Mestalla, and then build on that to improve away form.
"Things have been a little tougher for us away from home recently. But we have to look ahead and keep working because we have the quality to do much more. The players are pushing hard to be at the level the club need," comments Correia.
"We've managed to win games at home as of late, and that's what we're going to try to do again. Whether it's at home or away, we always have to give our all and win. We are Valencia CF. We have to be aiming higher and not look below us. That's why we're going to keep working to catch those above us."
As for his own performances, Correia feels that he is reaching his best this season, whilst also acknowledging that there is always room for improvement.
"My teammates give me a lot of confidence. I do everything to play and to help. I make mistakes because I'm young, but I have to look forward and do everything I can to do better."
Since I was a kid I've always been a player who has needed to work a lot. I've always made mistakes, and I've always been able to turn that around. That's what I'm trying to do," he stated, adding that "I feel much better now, but I think that if I work a little harder, and am a little more focused, with a little more confidence in myself, I can do a lot better."
"Last year I didn't really feel like part of the team. Now I feel like one of them. They have always believed in me, and they are very happy for me. That's very important. I feel really good, and I want to do everything to help the team."
